The endocannabinoid system and women's wellbeing

The endocannabinoid system and women's wellbeing

A cannabinoid is a part of a class of diverse chemical compounds that act on receptors found in the body and brain. These compounds are found naturally in all our bodies as well as in many plants.  They are referred to as endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids respectively.

CBD is the most prevalent phytocannabinoid found in cannabis (hemp) and many women are turning to CBD for its therapeutic potential in treating a variety of women's health issues. In fact female pelvic organs have a very high density of cannabinoid receptors. Current knowledge of the endocannabinoid system doesn’t explain the reason for this high number of receptors in the gynaecological urinary tract, but the endocannabinoid system is becoming widely recognized for its role in maintaining a homeostatic balance in the body.

Women experience different kinds of physical changes and health conditions during their lifetime such as pregnancy, premenstrual syndrome, menopause, hormonal imbalance, etc. With a growing availability of CBD based products, many women are turning to CBD to help treat these very women specific health conditions.

Here are some examples of how women can benefit from CBD

Hormonal Imbalance

The endocannabinoid system has been recently recognized as an important regulatory role in the secretion of hormones related to reproductive functions and response to stress. Many women report using CBD as a natural treatment option for hormone problems. CBD interacts with your cannabinoid receptors to help balance the secretion of important hormones like insulin, cortisol and melatonin.

From mood swings to insomnia, problem skin and irregular periods, many women are using CBD to help them take back control of their hormones

PMS

PMS symptoms can be especially trying on women with busy lives. CBD can reduce the anxiety and stress levels related to the menstrual cycle thus, making you feel more calm and relaxed. It is also a great pain killer which can help in reducing the lower back and lower belly pain during PMS. Try rubbing some CBD body oil on your abdomen and lower back.

Menopause.

Menopause is an inevitable part of aging. It is the transitional period when a woman’s menstruation ceases. During the menopause period, a lot of symptoms occur such as mood swings, sleep problems, bone loss, vaginal dryness, etc. One of CBD’s benefits includes reducing the experience of anxiety which can be useful in managing mood swings. It can also help in strengthening the bones to prevent bone loss or osteoporosis during the menopause stage.

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression know no gender. Both women and men can suffer from both. However, women are more likely to suffer from anxiety and depression than men. Hormonal imbalance has a huge effect on a woman’s emotions. Most women experience mood swings that can go severely to anxiety during their period or before their period but it usually goes away after a few weeks.

CBD, which has calming and relaxing effects can be a great help in these situations.

Haircare and Skincare

CBD has anti-inflammatory properties that can help allergies and very effective acne treatment. It might surprise you but CBD is already being used in some cosmetics today such as makeup, lotion, etc. CBD also promotes the production of keratin, making hair feel soft, strong, and healthy.

Period Cramps

Period cramps cause a lot of physical and emotional distress to women. Although some women are lucky enough not to experience cramps during their period, most women struggle with it every month. If you’re one of those women struggling with period cramps, there is a natural remedy that could help you- CBD.

Taking a few drops of CBD oil can help manage your menstrual cramp because CBD is a natural pain killer and contains anti-inflammatory properties. You can also apply CBD topical or ointment onto your lower back and lower belly to experience relief from cramps.

As a woman, it is very important to look after your health and wellness since in most cases it's up to you to look after your loved ones. Don't forget to give yourself time to relax, to pamper, and to be happy. Working with your endocannabinoid system CBD can help.
